The Rip Van Winkle Summary
Rip Van Winkle goes to the Catskill Mountains and falls into a deep sleep there. He wakes up to a new Strange world. Now, will he be able to find his family and friends now? let us read and understand the chapter.
The central character of the story is Rip Van Winkle. He was a good-natured human. A good kind neighbor and obedient husband, but the lazy man. He would have whistled his life away in perfect contentment. But his wife kept constantly nagging him about his laziness, his fearlessness.
One day Rip Van Winkle tied off his wife’s clamor took the gun in his hand and strolled Away into the woods Along with his dog Wolf. He went outside. After a while, he did not realize that he had reached the highest parts of the Catskill Mountains.
He threw himself on a green hill spot. As he was about to go down, He heard a voice from a distance “Rip Van Winkle Rip Van Winkle looked around”. He looked around but could see nothing.
The Voice repeated itself “Rip Van Winkle Rip Van Winkle looked around” Rip looked anxiously in the direction from the Sound. He was surprised to see another human being in this lonely place. But assuming it to be someone from the neighborhood in the need of assistance, He quickly moved down the hill. He was surprised to see a man with a strange appearance.
He was carrying a battle on his shoulders that seemed to be full of Beverage. The man-made signs for rip, to help him. When they reach the destination Rip Van Winkle saw many other men there. All of them playing the game of nine pins with utmost seriousness.
The Andrew of their mugs dipped it into the barrel and trying the beverage. Rip Van Winkle was tempted. No one was looking. So, he does taste the beverage. Tasted was good. He had one more mug, Then another and another until he felt dizzy and fell into a deep sleep.
On waking, he found himself lying in the spot. Where he had first seen the old man. He looked around for his dog-wolf, but could not find him. As he stands to walk, he found himself stiff in the joints and started walking slowly with heavy steps. He saw the village down below. It seems somehow changed. When he entered the village, He saw new faces all of them looked at him and rubbed their chins seeing them do this Rip Van Winkle did the same.
He found he had grown a foot-long beard overnight. Children made fun of him running behind him pointing at his great beard. Rip Van Winkle was puzzled. He believed that he knew most of the village man, but there did not seem to be anyone he knew around.
This was the same Village there stood the Catskill Mountains. Rip Van Winkle’s stopped by a place and ask the crowd that had gathered. Where is prom Dutcher? Someone said oh he went off to the Army, some say he was killed, others say he will drown. I don’t know. He never came back.

Old man Peter also recognized Rip. He said that his ancestors often said that the Catskill Mountains have always been haunted. He discovered that his wife died some time ago, but is not saddened by the news.
Rip was Disturbed to find another man called Rip Van Winkle. Ohh that was his son now grown up. So he realized that he has been away from the village for at least 20 years. Then finally his grown-up daughter takes him to his home back.
